Sweet Times at LCYC

March 22-24, 2021

Three and half hours of baking, STEM, and science learning activities involved 23 youth grades K- 6 each day. A total of 15 volunteers and 5 staff worked to make the discovery of sugar basics fun. Representatives from Amalgamated Sugar Co. presented sugar beet processing, beet by-products and ending with making cotton candy. Experiments included inflating a balloon with yeast, making sugar crystals, and constructing a 3D sugar molecule. Making brownies, molasses oatmeal bread and apple doughnut featured the star of the week-SUGAR.
