About Us

"We need to stop just pulling people out of the river. We need to go upstream and find out why they're falling in."

--Desmond Tutu

Our Story

The Lincoln County Youth Center (LCYC) was founded in response to a critical need identified by parents, grandparents, and educators across the county. They approached the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners with compelling concerns about the lack of after-school and summer programs for children. Many students were left unsupervised at home until late in the evening, while families struggled with limited childcare options. With 75% of Lincoln County’s adult population commuting outside the county for work, the need for a safe and supportive space for children was undeniable.

Our Community & Mission

Lincoln County, located in South Central Idaho, is home to about 5,300 residents across the communities of Richfield, Shoshone, and Dietrich. Economic challenges persist, with up to 75% of students in some districts considered low socioeconomic status and food insecurity affecting up to 30% of the population. In response, the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution to create opportunities for local youth.

Our mission is to provide quality childcare and education in a supportive environment where every child feels respected, loved, and empowered. We strive to:

- Foster respect, self-control, and confidence.

- Develop problem-solving skills, independence, and teamwork.

- Prepare children academically and socially for school.

- Offer transportation for all families.

Building a Foundation for the Future

Public support for LCYC was overwhelming. Volunteers and donors rallied behind the initiative, and a 7,500-square-foot church building became available for lease-to-own. The City of Richfield committed to covering utilities, while the Lincoln County Recreation District stepped in to help develop programs and secure financial support. LCYC is managed by the Lincoln County Youth Commission in collaboration with the Lincoln County Board of County Comissioners. By nurturing both academic and social readiness, LCYC is laying the foundation for a brighter future—one where every child has the support and resources they need to thrive.
